Stumbled across this article one of my good friends, Grant from Cali, wrote a few weeks back; he spent a day exploring Hiroshima and conducting interviews with managers of local grocery chains in the city.
His conclusion? Hiroshima loves fresh food.
“Normally, in a typical Costco, fresh produce accounts for 6% of the stores total sales. In Hiroshima, it accounts for 10%. Hmm… so this is something that they have realized on a corporate scale too. In an average Costco, fresh breads are only 2% of sales, while in Hiroshima fresh bread is 10%; even Costco realizes that Hiroshima loves fresh food!”
